Dots
1

It’s all about the dots!

The building up of coloured dots using paint and cotton buds. This is free flowing but also has a structured element to it.

Materials Required:

  • Acrylic paint
  • Containers or palettes
  • Pencils
  • Black card
  • Cotton buds
  • Aprons

Step by Step Guide:

  1. Place a variety of acrylic paints out
  2. Give each resident a number of cotton buds
  3. Give each resident a piece of black card
  4. Draw shapes, around hands onto the card using pencil (you may need a white pencils or something that will stand out so the resident can see the lines)
  5. Using the cotton buds dab paint onto the card following the lines drawn
  6. Leave to dry

I would suggest using one colour for each shape so it is well defined.

Ideas for Further Activities With This Idea:

You could experiment with different surfaces, maybe canvases or cotton bags. Using a dark background creates dramatic results. Or you could think about experimenting with individual letters if you wanted to spell out something specific for the home.

Adaptability

Ways to adapt for less able residents:

If visibility or coordination is an issue then, why not just try going free with the dabbing. Don’t worry about following lines just see what is created from the free flow of random dabbing.

Ways to adapt from group to individual and vice versa:

This could be done on a large scale as a group over time. Even a few people working on it at a time and then rotating it. Individually, use A4 or A3 black card.
